Radniecki and Rudolph Triple 'A' Award Winners
New York Mills seniors Kiera Radniecki and Jace Rudolph were chosen to represent the New York Mills High School in this year’s Triple ‘A’ Award. Each year, schools across the state nominate two seniors for the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award, more commonly known as the Triple ‘A’ Award. This award honors seniors who have maintained a 3.0 grade point average while participating in both athletics and fine arts.
Both Kiera and Jace were surprised to be chosen for this award.
Jace said his first thoughts were: “How did I get this??”
“I heard about it, but I didn’t realize we did it in our school,” said Kiera.
The New York Mills School does take part in this recognition program each year. Each fall, the call goes out to NY Mills staff to nominate seniors. A team of staff then sort through the nominations and make the difficult choice of one girl and one boy. Upon receiving the nominations, the two NY Mills seniors fill out the application to compete at the regional level.
Both Jace and Kiera have had active high school careers. They both belong to National Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl and Marching Band. Jace also participates in Robotics, Jazz Band, Cross Country, Bowling, Football, Baseball and Basketball. Kiera helped with the set for the Fall Play, as well as participated in Tennis, Basketball, Softball and Track. She was also chosen by her peers to serve on the High School Student Council.
Although it’s not always easy to juggle the responsibilities, the duo has no regrets with their active high school careers. High School has been fun and rewarding, especially the extracurricular activities. The seniors have made several trips to state with their sports teams and traveled around the United States with the band program. Not to mention the growth and leadership skills they have developed in NHS and Knowledge Bowl. Both Jace and Kiera hope their examples encourage other students to participate in both the arts and athletics offered at the New York Mills High School.
“Don’t be afraid to try new things,” said Jace. “If you don’t like it, it’s ok.”
Kiera agrees, adding “Try things when you are younger so you can figure out what you like, so you can focus on it.”
Both Kiera and Jace have a chance for the Triple ‘A’ Award Scholarship, which is given to winners at the state level. They both plan to attend college following high school. Kiera is pretty sure she will attend MSUM for Special Education and Early Childhood. Although Jace is pretty solid on engineering, he is not sure on which college he will attend.
Kiera is the daughter of Matt and Julie Radniecki. Jace is the son of Lisa and Chad Rudolph.
